Video games help stop meeting boredom

Business owners and execs struggling to make it through those long board meetings might want to consider putting some time for video game playing on the agenda.

The Hilton hotel in Sydney has moved to do something similar by offering video game facilities to users of its business meeting facilities.

Business types can either take a break in a dedicated gaming space, or request that a mobile gaming unit be sent around to the meeting room for a quick burst of digital gaming fun.

The hotel warmed to the idea after commissioning research showing most workers believe that playing games together can improve teamwork. More than 90% of 350 workers surveyed by Woolcott Research for the hotel said having fun with co-workers through activities such as game play can significantly boost team relationships.

“The benefits of gaming have been traditionally focused on pure entertainment factor, however what this research shows is that there are a number of other benefits which can help to increase productivity in a team meeting environment,” hotel manager Jerome Auvity says.
