The Government’s mandatory renewable energy target of 20% by 2020 will cost the Australian economy about $1.5 billion and push up power bills by 6%, a new report suggests.
According to the study, prepared by consultants CRA International for energy industry group The Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association, electricity will become more expensive because cheaper sources of energy will be marginalised under the target.
