Specialty bread retailer Brumby’s began more than 30 years ago when both the concept of franchising and the idea of hot bread shops were both in their infancy.

Watch founder Michael Sherlock (right) talk about how the group’s first bakery was started by a group of idealistic students who came up with the idea of starting an enterprise manned by volunteers dedicated to working to an ideal.

The company went through some bad times, going into receivership in 1987. It’s now a thriving franchised chain with 320 stores across Australia and New Zealand.
