You never can tell when the thirst for a tasty alcoholic beverage will strike, and sometimes it just isn’t convenient to jump in your car and make your way to the local bottle-o.

For people in inner-city Melbourne, that vexing problem may be a thing of the past thanks to a new business called, appropriately, Slabcab.

Slabcab is an online bottleshop with a reasonable range of beers, wines and spirits at more or less standard prices. Where it differs from your average bottleshop, however, is in its offer to deliver the drinks, irrespective of the amount ordered, for a $5 flat fee.

Payment can be made either via the Slabcab website or on delivery, with the purchaser required to provide ID proving they are over 18 before taking receipt of the goodies.

For the moment the delivery range is pretty limited, extending only to inner south-eastern and northern Melbourne. But the business’s founders – four young fellas aged 25 or younger – say they aim to extend Slabcab across the country.
