Google Play now allows US customers to pay for downloads through their phone bill

Google Play customers in the US on selected carriers now have the option of charging the cost of downloads to their phone bill.

The option is available for mobile customers who use Sprint as their carrier, however it has not yet been extended to other US carriers such as Verizon Wireless.

According to Android Police, the billing option is now available for apps, movies, books and music.

It is unclear at this point whether Google intends to extend the payment option to Australian carriers.
