Fast Lane: Make your voice heard at the MicroEconomic Challenge

Innovation has been front and centre since Malcolm Turnbull took over the prime ministership.

Today we will hear exactly what the government plans to do on the innovation front when its much-awaited innovation statement is released.

But there is a large group of Australians who have a unique insight into what innovation is and what it should be: small and medium size business owners.

SMEs are best placed to deal with change and play an essential role in local economies around the country.

If those economies are functioning well, the national economy has a much better chance of also functioning well.

This is why SmartCompany has signed on as a partner for the MicroEconomic Challenge, which is being held by the Council of Small Business of Australia in Sydney on Wednesday.

The aim of the challenge is to develop a communique to government and industry for what can be done on a microeconomic level to improve productivity across the country.

The one-day event will tackle local economic development, vocational education and training and how to promote healthy communities through business.

The regulators will be there, including the Fair Work Ombudsman and Fair Work Commission, the Australian Tax Office and the Australian Securities and Investments Commission.

And we will be there too – to report on the discussions and to speak to those SME owners who are there to be part of this conversation.
