The never-ending construction boom in Dubai is set to see the creation of another landmark, with plans to build the world’s tallest tower already underway in the middle of the city.
State-owned construction group Nakheel will build a one-kilometre high skyscraper in the “New Dubai” section of the city. It will boast more than 200 floors and 150 elevators.
“This is unbelievably groundbreaking design,” Nakheel’s Australian chief executive Chris O’Donnell said during a company briefing. “This still takes my breath away.”
The building will take more than a decade to complete and despite global economic conditions, O’Donnell told The Age the group is more than confident it can afford the tower’s construction.
