Could your resume open the door to identity thieves?

Job seekers who send their CVs to job search sites may be putting themselves at risk of identity fraud, a British experiment reveals.

The experiment, backed by the British police force and the Information Assurance Advisory Council, set up a fake job hunting website and invited those interested in an advertised job to send through their resumes.

The results show 107 people sent in their resume, while 61 of those provided enough information for a thief to apply for a credit card under the name on the CV, including passport numbers.

Neil Fisher from IAAC was quoted in itnews.com.au as telling the BBC: “Many people are happy to send their CVs ‘blind’ without thinking about the consequences if their information fell into the wrong hands”.
