Apple’s 3G iPhone is leading the Australian mobile phone industry, with iPhone owners using more data and browsing time than other mobile phone users, according to new research.
The Australian Mobile Internet Insight survey, conducted by analytics group Amethon Solutions, shows the average iPhone uses up to six times more data during a browsing session than any other phone: 2.07MB compared to 0.3MB.
The research also reveals iPhone users spend more time on web pages than other users, browsing an average of 2.8 minutes per site compared to 2.4 minutes for other users.
“Proud new iPhone owners are very likely to be surprised by incredibly high data usage, because of the quantity of data consumed with their heavy web browsing,” Amethon chief technology officer James Cleary says.
The research comes as Australian Bureau of Statistics numbers reveal wireless internet connections in Australia have doubled over the past six months, with over 14% of Australians regularly using wireless internet.
