Internet giant Google has responded to a claim from Apple chief executive Steve Jobs that over 230,000 iOS devices are being activated every day.
The comment, made at the company’s “special event” for September, was a response in itself to a previous comment made by Google chief executive Eric Schmidt. He bragged last month that Google is activating over 200,000 Android handsets per day.
“The Android activation numbers do not include upgrades and are, in fact, only a portion of the Android devices in the market since we only include devices that have Google services,” a Google spokesperson told Fortune.
This means that Google is saying the number of Android devices being activated is actually well above 200,000.
While both companies have worked together in various apps and services, the two have a fierce rivalry and are at the heart of a smartphone war, with Android continuing to gain market share.
