According to Pete Cooper, organiser of SydStart, Sydney’s start-up scene is a bit like “a gangly teenager which is finding out how fast it can run.”
A recent surge in the number of incubators, networking events and investor cash is, however, enabling Sydney’s nascent tech community to aim big.
Cooper’s SydStart – an annual one-day conference and pitch competition that was held on Monday – featured some of the city’s, and Australia’s, brightest hopes. Today, we pick out five of the best pitches from the start-ups looking to catch the eye of attendees.
One start-up that has already secured cash is Melbourne venture RefreshHQ, which has raised $350,000 just five months after being an untested idea.
But there is less welcome news out of Commercialisation Australia, with the government agency temporarily freezing all new grants.
