THE NEWS WRAP: Qantas told to end its dispute with unions by Fair Work Australia

Qantas has been told to end its industrial dispute with unions by Fair Work Australia, with flights set to resume by this afternoon.

Following a mammoth 15-hour hearing, a Fair Work Australia tribunal ruled that the cancellation of all Qantas flights worldwide, affecting around 68,000 people, was damaging to the tourism and airline industries.

Qantas had planned to lock out all of its workers from 8pm tonight after grounding its fleet, but the ruling means that flights are set to resume today.

Emerson hails CHOGM

The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, which ended yesterday, delivered a good outcome for Australia, according to trade minister Craig Emerson.

The meeting of 54 Commonwealth leaders in Perth included a pledge to “avoid trade protectionism”.

Emerson said: “If a group as diverse as CHOGM can agree we shouldn’t be embracing protectionism then that’s a good thing, that has value.”

Google expands Street View

Google has expanded its Street View feature so that users can look within shops and other businesses.

The voluntary scheme, released in limited areas, will allow people to look into small businesses, with no big-brand chains involved so far.

The Dow Jones industrial average gained 22.56 points, or 0.18 per cent, to 12,231.11. The Australian dollar was up to 107.10 US cents.
