THE NEWS WRAP: Hacker group Lulz Security calls it a day

A hacker group that has wreaked havoc on a number of high-profile websites has announced that it is to disband.

Lulz Security said through its Twitter account that its “planned 50-day cruise had expired.” The group has been held responsible for hacking into the systems of Sony and Nintendo, as well as US broadcasters Fox and PBS.  

ASIC to warn businesses of investigations

The Australian Securities and Investments Commission is to warn businesses when it plans to take enforcement action, in a bid for improved transparency.

The corporate regulator’s new head, Greg Medcraft, said that it would look to disclose more information to businesses in a bid to be more open, saying that it was “very frustrated” that it couldn’t tell the media about some of the things it was investigating.

Google placed under fresh investigation

Google has been placed under investigation by federal authorities in the US over claims that it manipulates its search results to promote its own products.

The Federal Trade Commission will look at whether the search giant is abusing its market dominance. The investigation follows the launch three similar state-based inquiries into Google’s market position.
