THE NEWS WRAP: Cyber-attack prompts eBay to ask users to change passwords

Online auction site eBay is asking users to change their passwords following a cyber-attack that compromised a company database containing encrypted passwords and other non-financial data.

In a statement on its website, the company said it had no evidence of the compromise resulting in unauthorised activity for eBay users and no evidence of any unauthorised access to financial or credit card information.

Google to spend up to $30 billion on international acquisitions

In a letter to the US Securities and Exchange Commission released publicly this week, Google said it would need between $20 billion and $30 billion worth of overseas profits to help fund the international acquisitions of companies and technology rights it has planned.

Google also told the SEC that it passed on a potential $4-5 billion takeover of an unnamed foreign company late last year.

Facebook to add Shazam-like feature

The social media giant is adding a new feature to its iOS and Android status composer which can activate the microphone on a user’s phone, identify what TV show or song they’re listening to and tag it in a news feed post.

Friends will then be able to listen to a 30 second preview of songs, or see a link to a TV show’s page.
