Eurovision may be in full swing over in Israel, but back home, Council of Small Businesses of Australia (COSBOA) chief executive Peter Strong has prepared his own musical submission.
Except the target audience is Australian politicians, and the topic is something more relevant to local small-business owners than European high flyers.
Aptly titled “our light bulb moments”, Strong and COSBOA policy and project coordinator Tara Highet are letting loose with the vocals to shine a light on small-business power bills.
The three-minute video, posted to the group’s Facebook page earlier this week, waxes lyrical about the energy woes facing SMEs.
There’s unavoidable comical appeal to Strong’s rendition of Highet’s song, but the subject is worthy of discussion, musical or otherwise.

Small-business energy bills have skyrocketed over the last 18 months, and courtesy of some COSBOA research from earlier this year, it has been revealed most SMEs believe they’ll struggle to absorb further increases.
In a recent policy comparison, COSBOA rated the Coalition 40% on energy and climate policy, giving Labor a 50% score.
But with those scores, neither party has escaped the organisation’s criticism.
“COSBOA wants a coherent plan for energy (don’t we all),” the body said.
“In particular, we need a decrease in the price of energy.”
