On the BRW website, there is no picture of Vicky Teoh. This is despite her topping the magazine’s inaugural Rich Women List, released today, which features 30 self-made entrepreneurial women.
Malaysian-born Toeh, along with her husband David, came to Australia in 1986. Together they co-founded internet service provider TPG.The company’s share price has almost doubled in the past year from under $1.60 to just over $2.80.
This has done wonders for the fortune of the Toehs, who together own an 18% stake in the company. TPG remains very much a family business – David is CEO, while Shane, their son, joined the board last year. Vicky’s wealth has been estimated by BRW to be $390 million.
David’s done a few interviews, but he’s typically remained something of a mystery figure, like his wife. They must like their privacy. Despite being the holders of a huge and growing fortune, it’s very hard to find a picture of either of them online.
