Some CEOs just don’t know how to let go, according to the ex-chief of competition regulator the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, Graeme Samuel.
Speaking to The Australian Financial Review, Samuel said organisations suffer for having to jump through hoops to make their ex-chiefs feel relevant.
“Relevance deprivation syndrome is not a lot different to the ‘CEO disease’,” he said. “CEO disease is the disease that some CEOs catch – some leaders catch – when they start to believe their own bulls–t. As they start to believe it, it’s the beginning of the end.”
