Poor Nathan Tinkler.
In the past few months the former mining tycoon had to liquidate the vast majority of his assets. And now he’s got the Australian Tax Office trying to shut down his sporting teams.
The tax office has filed an application in the Sydney Federal Court to wind up the Newcastle Knights and the Newcastle Jets, as well as the parent company which owns the two clubs, Hunter Sports Group. Prompting this is a $2.7 million unpaid tax debt.
Last week, Tinkler had his helicopter and private jet repossessed, and he had to sell his Patinack farm horses in a fire-sale in October.
