Reflecting on kids’ safety

Business start-up for child safetyThe pressure on parents to keep a close watch on their kids is endless – it applies at the playground, in the swimming pool and in the driveway.

There is, however, a new product on the market which aims to increase children’s safety, particularly at nighttime.

German manufacturer Wagalum has come up with reflective lace, which is attached to prams to make them visible after dark, essentially serving as headlights.

Wagalum issues a set of eight reflective stickers in four different sizes to provide all-around visibility for babies in strollers.

The stickers’ ‘micro-prismatic’ surface shines nine times brighter than comparable materials do, causing strollers to be seen six times earlier by other traffic and 85% less likely to be involved in an accident.

This could be a good business opportunity for an Australian start-up that already operates in the children’s clothing and accessories area. A focus on child safety could even be the basis for a standalone business, if you were able to complement this idea with other useful safety innovations.
