How to install Windows 7

Most computers come with Windows 7 pre-installed now, unless you’re buying a Mac, and most business owners won’t have to deal with installing a new operating system.

However, if you are short on staff, and you have no other choice but to install the operating system yourself, you should know what to do if you find yourself with no other option. Thankfully, it’s an easy process.

First, you need to insert the Windows 7 DVD and then reboot your computer. Once it begins to start, you will see a message asking you to “press any key” to boot from the CD or DVD – do this.

Windows 7 will then begin loading some files, and then take you to a setup screen. Accept the license terms by clicking the box, and then go forward.

Then, Windows 7 will ask you if you want to do an upgrade, or a custom installation. If you are simply using an upgrade disc, then press “Upgrade”. However, if you are choosing to install Windows 7 over an old operating system, like Windows XP, you will need to choose “Custom” and then choose the hard drive where you want to install Windows.

Then, the installation will begin. Don’t worry if your computer resets a couple of times, this is normal. After the installation has finished, the computer will restart and prompt you to choose a computer name, input your product key, and then choose some basic settings.

After that, you are all done, and your Windows 7 installation should work perfectly. If anything goes wrong, contact your tech support provider or Microsoft – don’t fix settings you don’t know very well, otherwise you may damage your computer.
