If you’ve owned a computer for any length of time, you’ll know that as the computer’s life goes on, it operates slower and slower. This can be incredibly annoying when you’re trying to get your work done.
One of the reasons your computer becomes slower is because as you add new programs and features, the hard drives are spending more time and processing power “looking” for things. Fortunately, there are some ways you can fix this.
Firstly, (in a Windows computer), go to the Control Panel and select the add/remove programs feature. Then, systematically identify and remove all programs you aren’t using. If you have files spread across your computer, move them into folders dedicated to a single theme – it will make searching for your crucial files easier as well.
You’ll also want to try a defrag. Open up the “Start” menu, click on “All Programs”, then “Accessories”, then “System Tools” and finally, “Disk Defragmenter”. Follow the prompts and leave your computer to defrag overnight, which essentially means the computer will group lost files together to save space. You’ll find your computer will run slightly smoother as a result.
