THE NEWS WRAP: Apple holds off on Beats streaming service until June

Apple won’t be unveiling its Beats-based music streaming service at its Spring Forward event next week, sources tell 9to5mac.

Instead sources say the company plans to introduce the service at its Worldwide Developers Conference in early June.

The new iTunes streaming service is based on technology acquired from Beats Music. It was initially planned to launch in early 2015, but was delayed due to departures of key employees and difficulty integrating Beats into Apple.

Lasers to help solve VR’s motion sickness problems

The biggest concern among those working on virtual reality headsets is releasing products that could make people physically sick, The New York Times reports.

Valve co-founder and president Gabe Newell, who recently revealed the company’s own virtual reality headset – the Vive, developed in conjunction with HTC – says they’ve solved the motion sickness problem.

Vive’s solution includes a motion tracking system that uses lasers to accurately reproduce a person’s real-world movements in the virtual world. The system called lighthouse will be offered for free to hardware manufacturers.

Fitbit acquires personal training app

Health-and-fitness hardware maker Fitbit has acquired Fitstar a personal training app that creates customised workouts with celebrity athletes, Re/code reports.

Fitstar has two million registered users and is only available on iOS but gives Fitbit a more personalised training experience that it currently offers.
