Getting an endorsement from US President Donald Trump could be a creative way to kickstart your business, and one young entrepreneur is giving this approach a try.
Many entrepreneurs looking for the President’s approval might seek to set up a meeting with the controversial man, or at least one of his advisors, or try and strike up a social media campaign to catch Trump’s attention.
But an 11-year-old from Orange County decided the best way to try and meet the leader of the free world would be to just skate into the foyer of his New York hotel, Trump Tower.
Fairfax reports Carson Kropfl swung by Trump Tower last week in an attempt to hook up Trump’s son, Barron Trump, with one of Kropfl’s short-form skateboards, dubbed the Locker Board. Unable to meet with the man himself, Kropfl left a note with security in the hotel, in the hopes the President would see it.
“Dear Mr President, your son needs one of my Locker Board skateboards to skate the White House. Can I send him one? Shred hard, Carson,” the note reads.
The Locker Board is a short skateboard, not much longer than a foot, designed to fit easily inside the lockers of schoolkids. Kropfl came up with the idea after experimenting with different size skateboard decks and kicked off the business idea with some help from his parents.
Kropfl has already designed five boards for Barron Trump, and Kropfl’s mother, Carrie, thinks there’s a chance he could end up skating on one in the White House.
“I had no idea any of this would happen. I didn’t even think he would get into Trump Tower,” she told Fairfax.
“Who knows? You might as well try, right?”
Having sold 125 boards at a price of $US99 each, Kropfl has made a profit of around US$2700 and hopes to partner with a manufacturer in 2017, having made all his products from recycled skateboards so far.
