Following in the footsteps of open-source software, Microsoft has released an application allowing Windows users to operate on multiple desktops.
Already popular in open-source operating systems such as Linux, virtual desktops operate like browser windows, allowing the user to open and run as many as four desktops at the one time.
The application, called SysInternals, can be useful for lumping applications and programs of a certain type into one desktop while keeping others open for email or web browsing.
Like all new software applications, the initial version has been reported to include several bugs, but users expect the bugs to be fixed in upcoming versions.
