Sydney’s harbourside suburbs have retained their status as Australia’s wealthiest areas, according to data released by the Australian Taxation Office.

The average income for a person living within the postcode 2027 is $200,000, according to tax returns for the 2013-14 financial year, up from $170,000 in 2012-13.

The 2027 postcode encompasses the harbourside suburbs of Darling Point, Edgecliff and Point Piper, and falls within Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull’s electorate.

Toorak, in Victoria, came in at number two on the list, with the average person residing in postcode 3142 reporting a taxable income of $167,407 in 2013-14.

Resident’s in Mosman and Spit Junction in inner Sydney are biting at Toorak’s heels, however, with a mean taxable income of $161,579.
