Every time I hear the soulful melody of the Beatles’ song All You Need is Love, I have to question it.
Sure, love is wonderful. Especially to be loved, to love others endlessly – and to love what you do in life.
But love is not enough.
OK, stating this may burst a few bubbles but I believe it may also resonate with most of us. Especially those of us who think that love can solve everything, make every path smooth, make every day sunny and easy – I believe people have a misconception of what love truly is.
Especially when it comes to loving what you do. When someone says you never have to work a day in your life if you love what you do, well actually you DO have to work – you just enjoy more than if you hated what you do.
Love isn’t a just a fluffy feeling, as so many songs would have people believe it is. They are confusing it with excitement, adrenaline and a desire for something new and elevating. This is great for when you start a new job, project or start a business, but will it last?
Take the test to find out if you truly “love” what you do.
True love requires the following:
• A true deep passion for what your purpose is – only THIS will keep you genuinely excited through the tough times
• Speaking of tough times, loving what you do means walking through raging fires until you get out the other side
• You’ll need to make tough decisions and you may end up all alone, but over time it will secure a quality outcome
• You need to look after your business and its brand – keep its image intact at all times (your brand is a reflection of you)
• You can’t neglect your business. One day of neglect turns into a week and before you know it, you are breaking up
• Be careful of the company you keep and who you do business with. Every choice has a direct impact on the business. If you love it, you will look after it. The path of career love may not always run smooth, but it is worth it in the long run.
Trust me.
