Frustration with shopping websites has led to nearly one-in-three Australians giving up on online retailing entirely in favour of bricks-and-mortar retailers, a survey has found.
The figures are based on a survey of 1000 online shoppers across Australia and New Zealand conducted by PureProfile and commissioned by cloud hosting company Rackspace.
According to the figures, the top three complaints from users giving up online retailing include too many pop-up advertisements (42%), service online not being the same as in-store (34%) and that it’s too time consuming to narrow down options available (28%).
In addition, almost half (45%) of online shoppers have abandoned a purchase after experiencing frustrations with a website, while a further 47% have gone to a different website to purchase the same product.
While most online shoppers (83%) did so for convenience, 44% said traditional retail outlet shopping was quicker if they knew what they were looking for, and 43% preferred in-store service at a bricks-and-mortar retailer.
The figures come after another recent survey showed Australians spent $4.37 billion online between January and March 2015, up 22% from the previous year.
