Mozilla co-founder Mitchell Baker to deliver keynote speech at 2015 Mobile World Congress

Mozilla chairwoman and co-founder Mitchell Baker has been named as one of the keynote speakers at the 2015 GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, which is arguably the most important annual conferences in the mobile industry.

The MWC, organised by mobile phone standards body GSMA (Groupe Speciale Mobile Association), is a trade fair at which telecommunications carriers take a look at upcoming devices from mobile phone manufacturers and network equipment vendors.

Last year, the event was used by Samsung to launch its flagship Galaxy S5 device, and is one of the two largest trade shows in the first half of the year, along with the Consumer Electronics Show.

The theme for the 2015 event will be “edge of innovation”, with the show running from March 2 to March 5.

Baker’s participation comes as devices running the Firefox OS mobile operating system are released in an increasing number of countries, with Australian retailer JB Hi-Fi carrying one of the devices – the ZTE Open C – for $99 outright.

Other keynote speakers include GSMA director general Anne Bouverot, Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales, Visa chief executive Charles Scharf, Huawei deputy chairman Ken Hu, Peel founder Thiru Arunachalam and AVG chief executive Gary Kovacs.
