Apple rumoured to be planning to release its smartwatch on September 9

Apple is rumoured to be planning to unveil its smartwatch at an event on September 9, alongside the iPhone 6.

According to a report in Re/Code, the wearable device will integrate with the company’s HealthKit health management framework, which was unveiled by the company at its WWDC event earlier this year. The device will also include integration with HomeKit, Apple’s home automation platform, although it is unclear at this point how the process will work.

The event would come just under a year after the company’s last major smartphone launch event on September 10 last year, at which the company released its iPhone 5C and 5S smartphones.

However, the report appears to contradict earlier speculation Apple is planning to release the next version of the iPhone during an event in mid-September.

It would also see Apple’s launch event take place at the same time as Europe’s largest consumer electronics trade show, IFA in Berlin, which runs from September 5 to 10 and will feature new devices from a range of major companies, including LG and Samsung.

Meanwhile, Korean newspaper Chosun Ilbo reports the key DRAM chips in the iPhone 6 will come from an unexpected source, with Apple said to have switched suppliers for the components from SK Hynix and Elpida to Samsung.
