Apple is set to begin mass production of its first smartwatch in July, according to a report from Reuters.
Taiwan’s Quanta Inc will produce the product, which will boost its operations given the company’s previous work for Apple has focused on iPods and laptops, both of which are in decline.
A commercial launch of the product could come as soon as October.
According to Reuters, Apple expects to ship 50 million units within the first year of the product’s release, but those types of initial estimates are subject to change.
Sources quoted by Reuters say the smartwatch will require pairing with a smartphone in order to complete tasks like messaging and voice chat and it will only be compatible with devices running Apple’s iOS.
