Samsung Group chairman Kun-hee Lee continues to recover following a recent heart attack, with doctors stating the South Korean businessman’s condition continues to stabilise.
The latest news comes a week after reports first surfaced claiming Lee had ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) treatment in intensive care following a heart attack.
According to reports in both The Korea Herald and Yonhap, the latest updates come after erroneous rumours surfaced on social media networks on Friday claiming Lee had passed away and Samsung was cushioning the news in order to protect its share price.
Yonhap reports the chairman’s condition is stabilising after undergoing around 60 hours of induced hypothermia treatment on Tuesday of last week, with senior executives pushing to accelerate the transfer of managerial power to Lee’s children.
News of Lee’s recovery comes as the JoongAng Ilbo, a media organisation founded by Lee’s father Byung-chul Lee, reports Samsung Electronics is gearing up to launch a new series of tablets featuring premium active-matrix AMOLED displays.
The tablets, dubbed the Galaxy Tab S series, will be unveiled on June 11 in New York and will be available with either 10.5-inch or an 8.4-inch display.
