The National Broadband Network is rolling out “with the determination and velocity of an arthritic snail” opposition communications spokesman Malcolm Turnbull has claimed.
“In other words, as time goes on there is every indication that this project will take longer to roll out,” Turnbull told ABC radio.
“People will have to wait many more years for broadband upgrades and it’s going to cost more in terms of expense to the taxpayer,” he said.
Over the next three years, construction of the fibre optic national network will be under way in more than 1000 towns and suburbs across Australia.
“What’s becoming very obvious is that the risks [of financial blowouts] associated with the NBN are getting greater.”
