A senior Samsung official has officially confirmed the Korean tech giant will launch its Galaxy Gear smartwatch on September 4.
In an interview with the Korean Times, Samsung mobile executive vice president Lee Young-hee confirms speculation over the launch event.
“We will be introducing a new wearable concept device called Galaxy Gear at our own event in Berlin on September 4,” Lee says.
“The Gear won’t have a flexible display. The new device will enhance and enrich the current smart mobile experience in many ways. It will lead a new trend in smart mobile communications. We are confident that the Gear will add meaningful momentum to the mobile industry.”
As SmartCompany reported yesterday, the Korean tech giant plans to host simultaneous “unpack” events in New York and Berlin on September 4 to unveil a range of new devices, including the Galaxy Note 3 phablet and its Galaxy Gear smartwatch.
The German event is set to start at 19:00, with the New York event set to take place simultaneously at 13:00 in Times Square.
The launch comes as Apple reportedly gears up to unveil a new range of low-end and high-end iPhones on September 10.
Following the launch, the devices will be demonstrated at the IFA, or Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin.
The IFA is one of the largest annual consumer electronics trade shows in Europe, which this year will run from September 6 to September 11.
The event is also set to see LG re-enter the tablet market by unveiling a new device called the “G-Pad 8.3”, along with refrigerators, washers and robot cleaners.
