Nokia produces just over 80% of all Windows Phones

Nokia now accounts for 80.2% of all smartphones running the Windows Phone platform worldwide, with HTC accounting for a further 13.7%, according to new statistics.

The data was collected from 579 Windows Phone apps worldwide using AdDuplex ad code.

Aside from Nokia and HTC, the largest Windows Phone vendor is Samsung with just 4.5% of the worldwide market, with all other vendors accounting for a negligible 1.6% share of Windows Phone devices.

A slight majority of Windows Phone devices still use Windows Phone 7 (50.6%), compared to 49.4% of users that have upgraded to Windows Phone 8.

Of smartphones running Windows Phone 8, HTC claims a slightly larger share of the market (18%) at the expense of Samsung (1.6%), while Nokia holds 79.8% marketshare.

“Nokia has gained its share rapidly in the early days of Windows Phone 8 and then set on a path of slow, but steady growth. It looks like the bulk of its growth is happening at the expense of Samsung, and HTC is keeping its share pretty much intact,” says AdDuplex founder Alan Mendelevich

The single most popular handset is the Lumia 920, accounting for 13.1% of the market, followed by the Lumia 710 (12.1%), Lumia 800 (11.2%), Lumia 610 (8.4%) and Lumia 620 (8.1%).
