Nokia has revealed that sales of its ageing Symbian smartphones remain strong, despite the growth of its Windows Phone-based Lumia smartphones.
According to Slashdot, Nokia sold 4.4 million Lumia smartphones during the fourth quarter, up from 2.9 million the previous quarter, following the release of Windows Phone 8-based handsets such as the Lumia 820 and 920.
Despite the growth in its Windows Phone devices, the company sold around 2.2 million of its older Symbian smartphones during the quarter.
The news is positive for CEO Stephen Elop, who has faced harsh criticism over his decision to abandon the Symbian and MeeGo platforms in favour of Windows Phone.
