Apple and Google have teamed up for a joint bid for the patents of bankrupt film giant Kodak Eastman.
According to Bloomberg, the tech giants have launched a $US500 million bid for the 1,100 imaging patents held by Kodak Eastman.
If the Google/Apple bid is successful, it is likely the patents will be used in litigation against competitors to the IT industry, such as Research in Motion, Microsoft, Jolla or Nokia, while key Google and Apple partners (such as Samsung) could be granted licences to products based on the patents.
The news comes amidst an intensifying series of legal battles over key smartphone and tablet computer technologies, which includes a series of lawsuits between Apple and Google’s Motorola Mobility hardware division.
