More than three-quarters of Android users stick to Gingerbread or Ice Cream Sandwich as Jelly Bean languishes

The latest version of Android, 4.1 Jelly Bean, is used on just 2.7% of all Android devices worldwide, with more than three-quarters of users sticking with Gingerbread or Ice Cream Sandwich, according to new figures from Google.

The figures were collected by looking at the percentage of unique visitors using each version of Android to access the Google Play store over a 14-day period.

A remarkable 54.2% of Android users continue to use Android 2.3 Gingerbread, while 25.8% choose Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

An even older version, Android 2.2 Froyo, is still used on 12% of Android devices worldwide, while versions up to 2.1 represent 3.5% of the user base.

The 2.7% figure comes despite the fact that Jelly Bean is used on Google’s Nexus 7 tablet.
