Some of the zippiest technological gizmos about to hit the market are currently on show at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Here are four of the most innovative items identified by technology news service I4U News:
1) Boy, that is one thin TV: Pioneer is displaying a concept flat panel television called the KURO. Why is that impressive? Because it’s just 9mm thick, which Pioneer says makes it the world’s skinniest flat screen television.
The KURO TV won’t be ready for production for some time, so if you can’t wait to get your hands on a super-thin TV, perhaps JVC’s super-slim LCD screens will suit. At about 38mm wide, they don’t quite match the KURO in the slimness stakes, but they will be in shops later this year.
2) Robo-rover: The WowWee Rovio is a robo-pet with more than a few high-tech ad-ons. The wheeled robot, which is about the size of a cat, has a built-in camera and microphone that can feed audio and video remotely to your computer – a handy security device. It also has a built-in GPS system so it can find its way around and locate the position of other objects. Rovio will retail for around $US299 when it is released later this year.
3) PC pocket-rocket: LimePC has invented a weeny, but very powerful, pocket-sized PC. The LimePC M1 is a handheld computer about the size of an iPod that features all sorts of goodies normally associated with larger devices such as a touchscreen, up to 16GB of flash memory, WiFi, graphics and audio cards, PCI and ethernet. All that, and it only weighs 130 grams.
4) Handy wristphone: The perfect product for all those James Bond wannabes. The LG wristphone is the size of a watch and comes with a video screen that the user navigates via a tiny scroll bar embedded in the device. And, just as importantly, it looks really cool.
