US FTC moving closer to antitrust action against Google: Reports

The US Federal Trade Commission is moving closer towards launching an antitrust case against Google, according to recent reports.

According to Reuters, following a year of investigations, four of the FTC commissioners now believe Google might have illegally used its dominance of the search market to hurt its rivals, while one commissioner remains sceptical.

Several competitors, including consumer reviews website Yelp and comparison shopping website Nextag have complained about Google during open hearings in Congress.

Competitors reportedly allege Google gave competing services low search rankings in its popular search engine, placing their rankings below its own services.

Google denies any wrongdoing.
