Apple seeking US ban on Samsung Galaxy S3 smartphone and Galaxy Note tablet

Apple has added the Samsung Galaxy S3 to a list of smartphones it wants banned in the US as part of a smartphone patent lawsuit.

According to AndroidCentral, the lawsuit is separate to a recent case that saw Apple awarded over $US1 billion in damages, for which Apple wants to see eight infringing Samsung devices banned in the US.

In this second patent lawsuit, filed in February, Apple is seeking to protect its ‘647 (Data detector), ‘721 (Slide-to-unlock), 172 (Word completion) and ‘604 (Universal search) patents.

Apple originally alleged 17 Samsung devices infringed these four patents, including:

• The Galaxy S2
• The Galaxy S2 Skyrocket
• The Galaxy S2 Epic 4G Touch
• The T-Mobile Galaxy S2
• The AT&T Galaxy S2
• The Galaxy Nexus
• The Illusion
• The Captivate Glide
• The Exhibit 2 4G
• The Stratosphere
• The Transform Ultra
• The Admire
• The Conquer 4G
• The Dart on the smartphone side
• The Galaxy Player 4.0
• The Galaxy Player 5.0
• The Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus
• The Galaxy Tab 8.9

In addition to these originally listed smartphones and tablets, Apple is now seeking bans on four more devices:

• The Galaxy S3
• The Verizon-specific Galaxy S3
• The Galaxy Note
• The Galaxy Note 10.1.
