Enterprise spending on IT outsourcing is expected to reach over a quarter of a trillion dollars worldwide in 2012, according to new research from Gartner.
The study, republished by Tom’s IT Pro, reveals year-on-year growth in the sector from $US246.6 billion in 2011 to an estimated $US251 billion in 2012.
Datacentre outsourcing still remains the largest segment in the industry, accounting for 34.5% of all spending on IT outsourcing, although this is down by 1% over the last year.
The largest growth area in the industry is cloud computing, which is expected to grow by 48.7% year-on-year, or $US1.6 billion per annum, to reach $US5 billion worldwide.
The figures come after a recent IDC report revealed the banking, financial services and insurance sector accounts for 22% of all enterprise ICT spending in Australia.
