It has been revealed that Twitter will set up an Olympics hub that will aggregate tweets from athletes, fans, family members and commentators onto a single page during the London 2012 Olympic Games.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the Olympic hub will be run in partnership with US media giant Comcast/NBC Universal.
While Twitter has often been used to discuss ongoing events and social issues, the Olympics hub marks one of the first occasions the social network has served as an official commentary platform for a live event.
The social network hopes the partnership will help increase its market penetration in the US, after recent surveys revealed only 15% of Americans have a Twitter account, and only 8% tweet daily.
