Netflix users streamed more than one billion hours of video during June, according to an announcement from the company.
Chief executive Reed Hastings said yesterday the milestone had been achieved for the first time ever. “When House of Cards and Arrested Development debut, we’ll blow these records away,” he said.
The company hasn’t had a great a year. In 2011 it was criticised for plans to split the DVD and online streaming divisions – plans that were eventually shelved due to user backlash.
The one billion hours comes to 38 hours per streaming subscriber, compared to just 28 hours in December, according to the AAP.
