Asus PadFone goes on hold to wait for chips

Asus has announced that the release of its highly anticipated PadFone hybrid mobile device is being delayed due to chip shortages.

According to The Verge, Asus has announced a delay in the release of the device, due to a shortage of Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 chips.

Known as a “hybrid device” or “phablet” (phone and tablet), the PadFone is a smartphone that can be “docked” inside a tablet screen, which in turn can be docked in a laptop-like keyboard dock in a manner similar to Asus’ Transformer devices.

Asus had originally announced April 20 as the Taiwanese release date for the device, with a European release originally scheduled for mid-May and a 4G LTE version in September.
