The US smartphone marketshare for Google’s Android platform has hit 50%, with 2.4% of Android devices worldwide now running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, new figures reveal.
According to ComScore figures published by Phone Arena, the smartphone marketshare for Android reached 50.1% for the quarter ending February 2012, ahead of Apple (30.2%), RIM (13.4%) and Microsoft (3.9%).
The figures show that for all US mobile devices (including feature phones), Samsung’s US marketshare stood at 25.6%, ahead of LG (19.4%), Apple (13.5%), Motorola (12.8%) and HTC (6.3%).
The figures came as Google released worldwide figures showing that Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich now runs on 2.4% of Android devices, although the figure remains a long way behind Android 2.3 Gingerbread (63.2%) and Android 2.2 Froyo (23.1%).
