According to information sighted by iTnews, Telstra has entered into talks with Huawei Marine Networks about purchasing one of four fibre pairs that make up the ASSC-1 cable, which is to run between Perth and Singapore.
Upon completion, ASSC-1 will be the seventh major undersea internet and telecommunications cable linking Australia to the rest of the world.
The news suggests that Telstra is anticipating future data demand growth as a result of the rollout of NBN and LTE adoption.
