Google chairman and former chief executive Eric Schmidt has hinted the company could be looking at releasing its own tablet device.
According to an interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, Schmidt said the company will “market a tablet of the highest quality” in the next months.
However, it remains unclear what Schmidt refers to, as there are a number of third-party Android tablets under construction with several different companies involved.
The comment could also mean that Google is looking at emphasising the Android 4.0 software for tablets more prominently, as users have been disappointed in Android 3.0.
