11 Facebook page tab tips

Tabs on a Facebook page are all apps that have been added by the page admin. Although when you first start your page Facebook does give you a few, you don’t have to keep them. New apps are added daily by coders.

1. You can’t move the wall, info or friend activity tabs.

2. By clicking on EDIT you can drag and drop to change the order of the tabs.

3. The new insights tab can only be seen by the page admin.

4. If you aren’t using a tab then remove or hide it. There is nothing worse than visiting a page and all the tabs are empty.

5. Change the name of the tabs so that, a) It is clear what the tab is about and b) It has a call to action, eg. “Win an x”.

6. Make sure that the tabs you most want people to click on are in the top six on your page (ie. people can see them without having to click MORE).

7. Check that your tabs are working every now and again, sometimes apps fail and it looks bad if it doesn’t load.

8. At the end of October Facebook is deleting the Reviews and Discussions tabs – this probably means that these can no longer be added to pages, but make sure you have copied all your content from them, just in case.

9. You can get really creative with the tabs on your page, the only limit is your imagination. There are thousands of apps you could add to your page, so start by thinking about what fits with your business, then what might be interesting to your visitors, and finally search on Facebook.

10. Your info tab, although it doesn’t look very exciting, is one of the most important on your page, as the content of it is searched by search engines. Make sure it is filled in using keywords that people might use to find you.

11. Don’t replicate your website. Facebook isn’t supposed to be a cut down version of your website, but a place people can interact with your business. Make sure you know why you have a page – your tabs should fit with that purpose.

I get very excited when I visit a page where they have got imaginative with their tabs, either in terms of content or design. It may just be the Facebook geek in me, but the more interesting and exciting your page is the more people will share with their friends.
