DevOps and cyber security tech company Sysdig has launched in Australia and New Zealand, establishing a local HQ in Sydney.

Founded in San Francisco in 2013 , Sysdig provides specialised security solutions for file containers, their organisation systems, known as kubernetes, and other cloud-based systems.

The open-source software-as-a-service startup now has offices in North Carolina in the US, and in Germany, with almost 400 employees in total.

In April this year, it raised US$188 million ($252 million) in a Series F round, valuing the business at just shy of US$1.2 billion ($1.6 billion).

Sysdig CEO Sureah Vasudevan said at the time the funds would be used to expand into new regions, including the Asia-Pacific.

The move also follows a partnership with enterprise software and cloud distributor NextGen ANZ.

Having a local team and partners is intended to provide better support to Sysdig’s ANZ and APAC customers, while also keeping their encrypted data within the region.

A local presence “gives our integrator partners and customers more flexibility to build at scale, and help secure the application development lifecycle for their cloud applications”, ANZ managing director Anthony Leverington said in a statement.

This is just the latest in a string of global tech companies choosing the ANZ region for the next step in their global expansion.

Social media content startup Jellysmack also announced earlier this week it was launching in Australia and New Zealand, having already signed 10 content creators up to its platform.

In August, SMS-based communications platform Podium opened its Australian office, after its customer base here tripled over the past year.

Fitness retailer Peloton has also opened its operations in “key Australian cities” Sydney and Melbourne.
