What should I do about Facebook’s Hidden Posts?

On your Facebook page/s that you admin you will see underneath the wall tab there is a section called “Hidden Posts” (if you can’t see it, then click on the “Wall” tab and it should appear). Only page admins can see hidden posts, your page Likers can’t.

Hidden posts are the area that Facebook moves any posts, added to your page wall, that it thinks are spam. This could be because they are actually spam, eg. “lose 100kg in a day with this drink”, or it may be that Facebook “thinks” that they are spam, but they’re not.

You need to check your Hidden Posts section at least once a week to see if anything has fallen in there and needs rescuing.

What to do if you have a hidden post:

1. Mouse over the right of it and a cog will appear.

2. As you can see you now have the option to:

a. Remove the post: if you do this the person who posted it does NOT get notified.
b. Remove the post and ban page: again they won’t be notified and they won’t be able to write on your page wall again, but they can still view your page.
c. Unhide the post: this will move the post from the hidden posts to your wall, but not to the top, it will appear in chronological order on your wall as other posts do, eg. if today is Wednesday and the post was on Monday it will appear further down the wall below any Wednesday or Tuesday posts.
d. Report as abuse: again the poster won’t be notified, but if they are reported too many times then their account will be closed down.

3. If you unhide the post make sure that you go to the wall and respond to the poster.

Often Facebook will move posts into hidden for no apparent reason, however usually I find it is when people post as their page on the wall that it happens, as opposed to posting as themselves.

Keeping your Facebook page looking good and your visitors happy can sometimes seem like a full-time job, I know! If you plan your time and your posts it makes it much, much easier. Set aside some time each day. If you want ongoing help consider getting a social media coach.
